Henry Ford's great-great-granddaughter Elena Ford is taking a key position at Ford Motor Co. to lead the automaker's efforts to coordinate marketing activities worldwide.
As director of global marketing, sales and service, a newly created position, Elena Ford will be in charge of identifying the best practices of the company's far-flung marketing operations and streamlining them for the entire company's benefit.
Under the "One Ford" strategy outlined by Chief Executive Alan Mulally, Ford already has brought together its regional development and manufacturing operations to produce global models such as the new Ford Fiesta and Focus cars.
"We need to take the One Ford vision and execute it into a global marketing process as well," Elena Ford said in a joint interview with Ford's chief marketing officer Jim Farley.
"This is a really big deal for Ford," Farley said. "Marketing has always been a regional activity."
He said Elena Ford had the experience and the relationships to succeed in her new responsibilities as the automaker begins to prepare for the U.S. launches of the European-designed Fiesta and Focus cars. They are key models for Ford at a time when many consumers are considering smaller but stylish, well-appointed vehicles.

Taiwan citizens get vouchers to go shopping
TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNN) -- More than 90 percent of eligible Taiwan residents took up the government's offer of 3600 New Taiwan Dollars (USD $108) to go shopping, government officials said Monday.
Any of the island's 23 million men, women or children qualify for the money, a combination of a lunar New Year gift and economic stimulus package designed to pump about 86 billion ($2.6 billion U.S.) into the economy.
By Sunday night, 91.3 percent of eligible citizens had picked up their vouchers, and malls were flooded with shoppers, Interior Minister Liao Liou-yi said.
The vouchers are good through September. But one major retailer, the Carrefour chain, said its Sunday receipts were up about 30 percent from normal -- and with Chinese New Year just around the corner, many appeared ready to use the money for holiday groceries.

Autobiography
(1)Good afternoon everyone, my name is Paul SHIH. I am teaching at Ming-Chien Elementary School in Nan Tou county now. I’m very popular there, especially kindergarten kids. They all like my fairytale story and sing English song. When I am telling story, I often ask them to go forward and act during the instruction.
(2)I had been studying abroad in the USA. I graduated at the Univ. of North Carolina with a master degree of CHEMISTRY. Then, I’d worked as a chemist at the Du Pont Company for two years in Wilmington, Delaware.
(3)After returning back to Taiwan, I worked for Taiwan Rubber Company in Kaohsiung and government in the Industrial Technology and Research Institute in Hsin Chu and also worked for Pau-Chen Shoe Company as Director of R&D department. I enjoy in making new products for better future. Nevertheless, I found my working style conflict with family matters, which bother me time after time.
(4)One day, when I accompanied my daughter to her kindergarten school. I was immediately attracted by their teaching activity and I thought to myself. “Isn’t it great that I become an English teacher?” because I always like to get along with kids.
Then, I managed to become a sub English teacher in I-Kou elementary school by passing recruiting test. After that, I entered Teacher program in the Chia-I Univ. and obtained the teacher certificate. It has been five years since then.
(5)Now that, I teach kids in the school and at home, I compare their discrepancies. Why some children can learn very well, while others have difficulties in their study. I know two classes per week isn’t enough to make students English proficiency. They need more inputs, but they have no extra hours. Thus, English teacher can help to provide more interesting subjects beyond the text book. We should promote students’ interest and motivation. This is also my target to create their enthusiasm in the classroom. In the end, I hope I can continue my teaching career next semester with nice colleagues here. Thank you.

Pistons will play tonight
Don't try to tell Pistons coach Michael Curry that his team is getting lucky.
True, the Pistons did beat the shorthanded Clippers Sunday. Tonight they will play Portland, which are minus their best player, Brandon Roy (hamstring). Friday they will play Denver, which is without Carmelo Anthony (broken hand) and Saturday they will play Utah, which is minus Carlos Boozer (knee).
But try to convince Curry his team is lucky and you are in for a fight.

Israeli troops enter Gaza Strip
Israel has sent ground forces into the Gaza Strip after a week of air strikes to try to halt rocket attacks by Palestinian militants.
Israeli troops were reported to be engaged in heavy clashes with Hamas fighters in northern Gaza.
Earlier, Israel intensified air and artillery attacks on the territory.
The UN secretary general has called on Israel to halt its ground assault immediately. An emergency meeting of the Security Council is under way
Witnesses say Israeli military convoys crossed into northern Gaza at four separate points. They were supported by attack helicopters.
以色列和阿拉伯人的戰爭,就像小學生愛打架一樣,沒有休止符。
