The magic girl

“The magic girl”

Long ago, in a mountain, there lived a bad witch who came to a small village and kidnapped a girl as her slave. The girl nevertheless was so pretty that the witch dared not to harm her. But, she was kept in the cave and there was no way out except the front door.

One day, the witch left home with a broom and locked the front door behind her. The girl was alone by herself. Not so long when she inspected the house, she found the magic book that the witch owned. She read the book and knew the book could help her with a little of magic. She held the book and read, “a bite of mushroom can make you smaller, and another bite of mushroom can make you larger.” She found a mushroom right beside her. She put the magic book into her pocket.

She ate the mushroom, then she became smaller and smaller. She was about one inch high then. She ran away through a small hole. “The hole is just right size for her to run away from the witch’s cave house.” She forgot to carry the other piece of mushroom and left right away.

However, this hole didn’t lead her directly to the outside. “I wonder where the hole is going to.” “But, now I am so tiny. I am smaller than caterpillar.” She murmured.

Suddenly, a great mouse rash to push her to the ground, “I want to eat you little thing. No, you are so pretty, I dare not to harm. Instead, I want you to be my son’s bride.” “I don’t want to be your son’s bride.” The little girl was crying but she was so little to run away.

When the sun rose, the son mouse told the little girl, “My mother is still sleeping. You quickly go away.” She was free and walked away from the mouse hole. However, she met a frog instantly. The frog took her to the river. “You are so beautiful, and I dare not to harm you, but I want you to be my son’s bride.” “I don’t want to be your son’s bride.” The little girl was crying again. Fortunately, a crab and a fish helped her to get away from the mother frog.

She thought she had to go back to the witch’s cave house to have the other piece of mushroom. But she didn’t know where she was then. The next, she met a swallow, can you take me to the witch’s cave house?” she asked. “Yes, but I am wound. You see, my left wing is broken. You can live and wait with me for a week.” “No, I have to go back before the witch come back to the house.”

Then, there came a butterfly. She learned what had happened to the little girl. “Ok, I fly you there. In an hour, they reached the cave house and took away the other piece of mushroom.

The butterfly flew the little girl back to her home. The little girl became normal size after she ate the mushroom. She wondered the witch would come back. When she reached her pocket, she found the magic book be with her all along. She read the magic book and knew how to cope with the bitch later on.

When the witch returned to the village, she found the village bewitched and decided not coming here anymore. The village therefore was free from the harassment of the witch. Anyone in the village named the little girl, “the magic girl”.

The golden arm hitchhiker-1

“The Golden Arm Hitchhiker”
A young man was crossing America from New York to California. He said goodbye to his mother.
“Mother, Here give me a kiss and then I’ll go.”
“I’ll come out with you to the car.”
“Oh, no, it’s raining. Stay here at the door. Hey, what’s this, dear? I thought you promised me you wouldn’t cry.”
“Oh, I know dear. I am sorry. But I do hate to see you go.”
“Oh, I’ll be back. I’ll only be on the coast three months.”
“Oh, it isn’t that. It’s just the trip, Ronald, I wish you weren’t driving.”
“Oh, Mother. There you go again. People do it every day.”
“I know. But you’ll be careful, won’t you? Promise me, you’ll be extra careful. Don’t fall asleep or drive fast or pick up any strangers on the road.”
“Oh gosh! You’d think I was still seventeen, to hear you talk.
“And call me as soon as you get to Hollywood, won’t you son?”
“Of course I will. Don’t you worry, there isn’t anything going to happen. It’s just days of perfectly simple driving on smooth, decent, civilized roads with hot dog or a hamburger stand every ten miles.”

Ronald was conscious passing Brook Bridge that morning. He saw a beautiful golden arm lady. She seemed to be waiting for a lift. There were spots of fresh rain on her shoulders. She was carrying a cheap overnight bag in one hand. She was thin with a cap pulled down over her eyes.

Ronald would have forgotten her completely except that just an hour later, while crossing over the hill. He saw her again. She was standing with one golden thumb pointing west. He couldn’t figure out how she’d got there, she probably one of those trucks had picked her up. He didn’t stop for her. Then, late at night, he saw her again. She said helloed to him on the road. But he stepped on the gas like a shot.

Ronald stopped at the next gas station.
“Yes, sir.”
“Fill’em up.”
“Certainly, sir, check your oil, sir?”
“No, thanks.”
“Nice night, isn’t it?”
“Yes, it hasn’t been raining here recently, has it?”
“Not a drop of rain all week.”
“Oh, I suppose that hasn’t done your business any harm?”
“Oh, people drive through here all kind of condition.”
“I suppose not. What about hitchhikers?”
“Hitchhikers? Here? A guy’d be a fool who started out to hitch ride on this road.”
“It’s just a technical question.”
“Oh, I see.”

The golden arm clock

In a village, there lived a poor man. Although he was poor, somehow he always managed to make a living because he was so clever. The poor man had a very rich neighbor.

One day, the poor man went to the rich man's house and asked to borrow a spoon for his dinner. The rich man agreed, "Without spoon, how can you drink while you eat. But you must promise to return it tomorrow."

The poor man thanked him, and came back the next day. He handed the silver spoon to the rich man and along with it a small tiny spoon which looked exactly like the large one except for its size. The rich man looked at the two spoons and was puzzled. "Wait a minute. I lent you only the large spoon, who owns this small spoon?"

"Believe it or not, last night your big spoon gave birth to this small one. Because I am an honest man, I am returning both the mother and the baby to you." The rich man thought this sounded ridiculous, but he was too greedy to argue with the poor man. He gladly accepted both spoon.

A few days later, the poor man went to the rich man's house to borrow a large silver bowl. The rich man would never have considered lending something of such value to anyone else, but he remembered what good fortune he had had last time he lent a spoon to the poor man. He quickly agreed.

Two days passed, the poor man returned to the rich man again. This time he carried not only a large bowl, but also a small one, identical in every way except size. "I know it's hard to believe, but your large bowl bowl gave birth to a small bowl. Since both of them belong to you, I am giving them to you now." The rich man was delighted, praised the poor man for his honesty, and gladly accepted the two bowls.

Not long, the poor man went to the rich man again. This time he asked for a golden watch, "Would you mind lending me your gold watch? I don't have watch and don't know what time is it?" The rich man didn't even hesitate, "Well, it would be my pleasure! Take this golden clock with two golden arms on it." He thought of a small golden clock that would be returned with it.

"Here, you may take my finest golden arm clock. I know you will return it just as you promise. And if it should happen to have a child, I have no doubt that you will be just as honest as you have been in the past."

"Well, of course." said the poor man. One day passed, and then another, and still another, but the man saw no sign of the poor man and his golden arm clock. Finally he grew impatient and went to the poor man's home. "I've come about my clock," the rich man asked politely.

The poor man hung his head sadly and said, "I was planning to visit you and tell you the sad news. "The night after I left your house, your clock died."

"Died? You fool, how can a clock die?"

The poor man look the rich man in the eye, "If you believe spoon and bowl can give birth, why should it surprise you that a clock can die?"

The well and the golden arm

It had been a while since people had forgotten about the legend of the golden arm in a little village in the central Taiwan. The streets remained deserted and people were silence at night. The lives in this little village changed slightly as seasons changed. However, there was a strange thing happening recently. It was a death of a three year old child, who fell down to a well. The mother didn’t look after the child was the cause of the accidence. But how could a child climb over one meter high wall and got drown inside the well? People questioned, but nobody wanted to talk in detail publicly.

There was a rite to somber the child’s death. People carried wooden carriage running back and forth, it seemed they all got out of their controls. They yelled time to time at the quiet and starless night. Paul, who was 12 and lived nearby the well in the end of the street, didn’t know why he went up the street and observed the thrilling and scary scene. He shook his head hard, but he didn’t want to make noise, apparently he didn’t like the rite at all preferred to keep his mouth shut. He couldn’t figure out why people doing this. The street seemed longer than usual, he thought. Then, for a moment, he saw a shadow running out from his back yard of his house.

He couldn’t see the shadow clearly. He ran after it, but lost its trace. He finally went back home to his peaceful bed, and fell to sleep right away. The next day, Paul’s aunt gave birth to a boy baby, who was born as pale as paper. The street people always related these two things together. One died, and his soul would find a place to reborn again.

The semester had begun for a month and they got a new teacher from outside of the village. The principal introduced her at the beginning of the semester. The new teacher looked young and charming. She rented a studio apartment room behind Paul’s house. Paul was able to look through his window and knew when her bedtime was as she turned off the lights completely every night.

Paul was a sixth grade student and knew the new teacher taught the first graded at the school. He wondered she could teach well because she was kind of young. She seemed to wear her gloves anytime. Sometime the weather got steamed, she might take off her gloves and showed gold like nail in her finger tip. Paul also observed her light went off quite early on Tuesday and Thursday night.

One night, the white skin baby cried soundly. Paul couldn’t fall to sleep and arose to drink some water. He peeked through the window and saw the same shadow disappearing into teacher’s door. With his peculiar, he sneaked out to his backyard, where he could hear some talking.

There was a low voice, “You have to watch out carefully about the small ladder every time you leave the well. Make sure you remove it from the well after immersing your nail to the well.” Paul thought, “ he must be an old man. Then, another voice, “Dad, I will be more cautious.” Paul recognized the new teacher’s voice. She continued, “I will give some money to repay to the lost of their child.” “Dad, how do you know the nail will become gold?” “Ha, ha, I had the secret book written. It was our treasure I inherent from our ancestor. The gold will grow and purify depending how long you put your finger into the well water.”

The next day, Paul was delighted, because he learned the secret of well and the death of the three year old baby. He told no one. He knew the new teacher might show up during the midnight. He planed to try his own luck. It was obvious that she would go there on Tuesday and Thursday night. Paul thought to himself, “Then, I shall go to the well on Monday and Wednesday night. I could build a wealth for my family.”

Paul went the well and dip his finger for an hour and then returned. The next day he found his finger didn't change. He thought he must miss something, the length of immerse, perhaps. He kept trying for other time, but his finger remain as usual. Then, something happened. There was a typhoon coming on Monday. The school was close for the sake of damage from typhoon. Paul had forgotten the date, and he went there on Tuesday night.

Just as he dipped his finger, he heard a voice, "What are you doing here?" "I, I drop my toy inside." Paul stretched more and his hand and arm were inside of the well. In a split second, he ran away from the well as fast as he could. The new teacher didn't catch me by any chance.

As the morning light shined to Paul's face, he found he couldn't move his left arm. The room was glittered. He was thrilled to find his left arm being heavy and the color was not the same.

The golden arm and its fingers

第二篇創作

Long time ago, there was a small village in Taiwan. Some people said they saw a ghost with a golden arm appearing sometime at midnight. People didn’t want to go out at midnight. They were afraid of the golden arm, who tended to take children especially young boy away from village.

One night, the sky had no cloud, but there were no moon and no stars either. The golden arm entered the boy house. The door was locked, but she appeared in front of the boy’s bed. She waked up the boy and said, “Don’t be afraid of me. I won’t hurt you, if you follow my command. I want you come to my place every Tuesday, and I want you to be a famous pianist, or I will kill kids in your village one after another.”

The boy, Jay, didn’t want to see kid dying in his village. He followed the golden arm to the graveyard. She taught Jay to play piano with her gold arm. Jay studied and played piano before, but showed no improvement. He kept in grade 11. His teacher wondered whether he could be a pianist in the future. However, Jay had shown improvement lately and his teacher was surprised unbelievably.

The village held piano contest every year. This year, Jay also entered the competition. He had no problem and won the champion cup. But his rivalry, a girl who was the second place winner, was angry and she was also taught by the same piano teacher. The teacher told her that Jay’s fingers were strong like he had a golden arm and fingers.

One night, the girl couldn’t go to sleep and saw a shadow walked out of Jay’s house. She peeked carefully, and made sure it was Jay. She was curious about Jay’s move, since he won the piano contest. So, she followed him to the graveyard. She saw him enter the coffin for half hour and returned his home.

The following night, however, Jay didn’t go out. She waited till the morning light, and made sure Jay didn’t leave his house. The third night, Jay also stayed and slept in his house. The fourth night, it was the same. It was until the next Tuesday night. She saw Jay walked up the hill and stayed there for half an hour. She had third intuition and was expecting something happened with Jay and his piano play.

The gold arm ghost kept teaching Jay piano play and every Tuesday’s lesson. But, one Tuesday light, she waited and waited and saw no Jay coming. She was angry and decided to go down the hill. She entered Jay’s house without knocking. The girl hid herself behind the rock outside Jay’s house, observed a long hair woman squeezing in from the thin hole of the door. She gasped and breathed like she had just seen a ghost.

She heard their conversation. “Why didn’t you go to my place to play piano?” the golden arm questioned. “I got a fever, ma’am. My legs are frozen too.” Jay replied. “OK, I don’t want my student being lazy, do you understand? I am waiting for you on next Tuesday.” Suddenly, the golden arm pulled the door and the girl fell down from outside. “Who are you? Why do you follow me? I am going to kill you immediately.”

The girl was frightened and asked for help. In no time, Jay turned on the flash light. The golden arm ghost was blind and yelled, “shut off the flash light, I can see nothing with flash light on.” The girl ran away in a hurry. As the gold arm stepped outside, there was a big flash lightning from the sky and rain began to pour harder. Jay saw the golden arm rusting under the rain.

The ghost retreated to the graveyard and found the golden arm had disappeared. The next Tuesday, Jay was still sick, but the golden arm didn’t show up. He wondered and thought the golden arm ghost might not come out again, therefore he didn’t go to the graveyard anymore. Jay later became one of the greatest pianist and singer in Taiwan music industry.

The Witch's Broom

這是我第一篇英文童話故事,歡迎指教

The old witch came out of a cave with a broom at hand. She had rested for a while, more than half a year. She stretched out and looked down on her broom, which was old, broken, and dirty covered with a thick of dusts.

She recalled last year she won the speeding contest with this broom. Then, she rode on it without hesitate, but it wouldn’t move at all. She murmured, “it seems I have forgotten how to fly and the secret of the broom. ” The witch swung the broom to the sky, where the dusts all spread out and became thousands of stars circling in the air. She smiled and checked the broom again, and found it be clean and shined as before. It fitted her bright dress perfectly.

The annual contest was about to begin. She rode on the broom, but it moved slowly and made noised, then suddenly stopped completely. She knew something was wrong, and all she could do was to examine her magic spell book, which recorded all the secret of the broom.

She went back to her cave room, but couldn’t find the book. It disappeared. Who stole it then? She thundered, “Little Flower!” Little Flower was her cat, she might know where the spell book was. “Little Flower, Little Flower, “ the witch called again. Little Flower the cat came back as fast as she could. Last time she was punished as no food for three days. She managed to be closer anytime in case the bad thing might happen once more. “Little Flower, do you know where my magic book is?” the witch questioned. (to be continued.#1)

“Yesterday, I saw mouse the East playing nearby. I wonder he might steal it.”
“Then, tell me where the east is now. I am going to drown him in a cage.”
“He probably stays in the forest behind the garden.”
“OK, Let’s go and get him now.”

The witch and Little Flower the cat passed the edge of garden and met an elephant.
“Elephant, have you seen mouse the East?” asked Little Flower.
Elephant lay down her nose to release wooden logs, which she carried along.
“Yes, he is playing by the river,” said the elephant.
The witch and Little Flower the cat then passed the center of the forest and met a wolf.
“Wolf, have you seen mouse the East?” asked Little Flower.
Wolf put his meat aside, and replied, “yes, he is playing by the river.”

The witch and Little Flower the cat passed the end of the forest and met a rabbit.
“Rabbit, have you seen mouse the East?” asked Little Flower.
The rabbit dropped his basket and eggs
“Yes, he is playing by the river,” said the rabbit.
“But, there was a big thunderstorm last night, the rabbit mentioned.

The witch and Little Flower the cat hurried to the river and saw mouse the East nearly drowning in the river. The water was flood as a result of last night’s rain.

The old witch gave a spell in no time. There, a bird suddenly became an eagle and save mouse the East from the water.(#2)

The old witch asked unhappily, “the unfortunately mouse the east, did you steal my spell book?”
“No, my highness, but I saw some ants sneaking around the cave.”, said the east.

The old witch, the East, and Little Flower hurried back to the cave, and found the spell book stayed in the grass nearby. It seemed there were something underneath. They were ants being pressed by the spell book. The witched picked up the spell book and saved those ants alive.

The king of ants responded, “sorry, Highness the witch, we are deeply sorry to move your spell book. We just try to exercise the spell in order to grow more apples on the tree for everybody. Somehow, the spell book became heavy than ever and pressed all of us.” The old witch said, “OK, you all be punished already, I don’t want to hurt you no more. Go to work, and no lazy for the rest of the day.”

The old witch examined the spell book to resolve why her broom couldn’t fly. Oh, it was she forgot to add gasoline, the broom ran out of it. She then asked the East bring gasoline 98 and applied to the broom. The broom groaned and started to shake and it seemed no way to stop it since then. Of cause, the old witch won the contest again with no exception this year.
